The Center for Leadership has been collecting and sharing stories about SLSHeroes (#sls_heroes)— people in St. Luke's extended community who are ready, willing and able to move their communities forward.
It's particularly rewarding when our SLSHero is an alumnus who has gone forth to serve. Vitaly Fetissov '11, a medical student at Charles University in Prague, is the founder of PragueVolunteering.cz. Vitaly, started the organization, along with a team of dedicated colleagues, as a way to connect people in need with people ready
to help.
Head of School Mark Davis recently interviewed Vitaly about the origins of Prague Volunteering as part of our SLSHeroes series.
SLSHeroes—Vitaly Fetissov' 11 and Prague Volunteers
“I started this initiative as a branch from my job as coordinator of the English Curriculum (EC) volunteers at the Third Faculty of Medicine in Prague. The website was initially a project to consolidate the applications of our students. Later, I realized that our student base was, though large, very limited in their potential scope as they have many other responsibilities. Therefore, I decided to move away from a solely student-focused organization and branch out on my own and open applications from the public,” Vitaly said in an interview with Prague Morning.
We are receiving so many SLSHeroes stories. I am grateful to be part of such a warm-hearted and kind community, working together in a calm and caring manner, leading each other forward through challenges.
